How To Electric Car?

49.5k dussts  2 days ago

I want it to be quiet
Is it okay if I use the regular car engine for electric cars?
If theres a way to turn off engine sound, please tell me.

Most of you keep saying jet engines. But the catch is, those cannot do burnout or wheelspin.

Idk just try and find the tesla cyber truck that dosent use a engine and just snatch that idea

I found a way a few months ago, just use a piston and an airbrake. I used it on a Formula E car and it works just fine, althought the top speed isn't consistent

I have made a lot of EVs and i use 2 modified jet engines facing in opposite directions, controllable via pitch (a low power one for reversing, a high power one for regular driving).
    I apply 3 main changes:

    1) set the "max" setting to a very low level (about 0.15-0.20) to improve consumption and recreate the silent whir of electric motors. A lower number means better consumption and less noise.
Also the "input" setting must be set to: Pitch*clamp01(GS<[number]) to limit the top speed.
    2) I change the "powermultiplier" depending on how much power is needed.
    3) I add a "throttleResponse" setting in the "Engine" section, allowing quicker or slower acceleration response

Some people proposed using FTs to make the engines work only when the wheels are touching the ground but i think it's a bit of a non issue unless you're making a rally car of some sort.
If you want to see this in action here's an EV platform i made
I hope this comment was useful.

You could put small low input jet engines where the wheels are and make them only activate if that wheel is touching the ground. That's basically how the wheels already work anyway lol
If you set the max input really low and add power multiplier to counteract it, you can make the engines both way quieter and speed up faster.

@YarisSedan a torque curve simulation naturally limits speed when force = drag
Usually, torque drops a lot after the redline on turboshaft and gasoline/diesel engines. But on motors, it depends. DC motors have a no-load speed, which depends on design. AC motors are limited by the switching rate of the inverter. But both types of motors might be further limited by software if there are safety requirements.
On jet planes, you might manage the acceleration of the plane using a curve as well. Jet thrust varies with airspeed.

@hpgbproductions intresting... but... is there like- any solution to limit jet engine speed?

For any car (or jet) engine, torque (or thrust) is proportional to input, except during the throttle response duration and at very low speeds for car engines. You can make your own torque curve/controller to naturally restrict speed. If you want to add a software speed limiter you should also do so using the engine.
    .
If a motor has a constant power output, and torque is proportional to (speed / power), then the torque curve will have the form T = k/v, where k is a constant. To prevent excessive torque at low speeds, the function must be clamped. (You can also use your own torque curve formula, I usually use joined straight lines instead of a smooth curve, but generally, torque must decrease with speed)
    .
Other speed limiter methods have side effects:
Airbrakes might cause unnatural behavior at high speeds and in the air, which need more FT to counteract
maxAngularVelocity produces a harsh and fixed speed limit. It is only suitable if the car has a hard speed limiter

On a jet engine, set ThrottleRespone to higher number, and the Jet engine will response as quicker as the number gets higher. (in this way, you can even make it immediately response on your input.)
about speed limit, idk how to limit the speed only with one jet engine (because i haven't heared yet) but, you can simply just use the airbrake to restrict the whole car's speed. and it would be good if you set its input like in this way: GS*3.6 -200 (this "200" can be changed as any much as you wish.) this is the much better code. because, the more speed limit you've set the car gets over, airbrake gets more stronger to restrict the speed of your car.

No idea, its probably possible tho.

@TheMouse i've heard that you can limit jet engine top speed using an ft code, but i forgot what post it was unfortunately

    @dussts
Top speed can be limited. Add airbrake.
    Airbrake input: IAS>20 etc.

@TheNewSPplayer jet engines acceleration is slow, and top speed cannot be limited

There is no way of turning of engine sounds. Atleast, I don't know any.
