Just a survey for my school project :v

Hello, people of simpleplanes. Though I think this is offtopic, but I just need to ask a few questions for this school project of mine that I'll explain, but here's the three survey questions first:

  1. What do you think is the most important feature of a fighter jet?

  2. Which of the following fighter jets do you think is the most impressive?
    a) F-16 Fighting Falcon
    b) F-22 Raptor
    c) F-35 Lightning II
    d) F-15 Eagle
    e) Eurofighter Typhoon
    f) Sukhoi Su-30 Flanker
    g) MiG 29 Fulcrum
    h) F-14 Tomcat
    i) FA-18 Hornet
    j) Other (please specify)

  3. How often do you think fighter jets should be upgraded or replaced with newer models?
    a) 10-20 years
    b) 20-30 years
    c) Other(please specify)

So, basically I need to conduct this, count how many people who responded, write a summary, then the rest is done by me(summary, conclusion. Y'know that kind of stuff).

    1. Combat range
    2. F-35, specifically the B variant. Having the aircraft transform into hover mode requires impressive engineering.
    3. 20-30 years

@SuperSuperTheSylph Or stand-off platforms, though that more applies to very large aircraft like a B-52.
Seeing as fighters go great lengths to do things other than heft large masses into the air, there’s too many design compromises (e.g. maneuverability that’d become useless) to make a truly effective missile truck.

There was no list previously so i thought idk,i wanted to pick a fave one but there was too many so i decided to be broad w it,but now there is a list
sooooooo...ig the Eagle and the Flanker
    2.
Seeing Graingy's and Overlord's answers, seems like i quite have hit the spot
    so,ig:
    30 years min
    50 at max
60-75 at some cases, when his role has been altered(from fighter to let's say, reconnaissance,or target drone)

@SuperSuperTheSylph Also, isn't 4.5 gen just attempts to keep 4th gen aircraft in operation while 5th gen are coming out? The opposite of impressive if you ask me.

I'd consider the F-22 the most impressive by virtue of how uncontested it was (is?) for the longest time.

@OverlordPrime Which is why I consider 50 to be the upper limit for frontline service. Past that you'd better be at least altering its role.

But yearh, 75 years is NOT reasonable.

@Graingy that depends on the tech involved. Obviously, we came a long way since the me-262 flew for the first time.

    1. since its a (fighter) jet Definitely the armory. Allthough supermanuverability is important, whats the point if a aim-9x can pull twice the g's? and ofc a jet is going to have wings and a engine.
2.ima just say a personal fave, but a eurofighter typhoon. the delta wing layout with front canards make it look good. 2nd in line would by from the sukoi series.
    2. we can constantly to work and improve our armory of aircraft. Anything to keep us on top right?

    @SuperSuperTheSylph

    50-75 years between models

50 years is pushing it. 75 years? That's akin to saying the Me 262 should've only been retired in 2019.

    1. Engines.
      2) There is no list to choose from.
3: Depends on the country and geopolitical situation. For a rough average with the current state of the world I'm going to go out and guess, eh, 25 years? At least between major frontline models (auxiliary or secondary duties is different, like strike fighter models).

    1. The ability to fly, alternatively the amount of blood in the pilot (less is better)
    2. NullReferenceException: The variable "following" does not exist in the current context
    3. They should be upgraded whenever significant upgrades are available. The oldest should be replaced with the newest only when they cannot be feasibly maintained anymore, because buying new is quite expensive.

    1.
Idk really, that one is in the silver line for me because i value the importance of every main part of a fighter jet,and if one of them is missing it's flight performance will drastically change.(If you lose a wing it is like you have one less leg,if you lose an engine it is like you feel suddenly with less energy but you were feeling fine just moments ago,if your hydraulics are damaged it is like you are bleeding out,and if your radar is damaged,it is like you have bad eyesight)
    2.
Any from 3rd to 4.5th gen. That is the time where the technology really started to become more advanced.
    3.
    50-75 years between models
    5-10 years between upgrades
    (although it overlaps but yeah)
