I want to host a challenge... A challenge so difficult that you'd have to have some serious guts to even want to enter.
A challenge with a prize pool of atleast 100 upvotes. I have 4 accounts and a few friends who can help with that prize margin...
And also, a challenge who's deadline is in about 25 days. Before Simpleplanes 2 is out, I want to really make Simpleplanes go out on its last few days solo with a huge bang. Now whether I go through with it, and I have plans to write entire documents about how the criteria for scoring will go, and how much Funky tress and all is needed, all of that will come if this post gets enough traction for me to know if people are onboard with this. I believe 100 Upvotes is the largest prize pool yet, but I'm not joking when I say I'm willing to go higher.
I've also thought that mere participation will warrant 10 upvotes... Now, are you all in?
If you're upvoting this, I'm assuming you'd want to be updated when the actual challenge starts.
@RestlessGalaxies
see, past me would love a challenge like this
but the me right now can't last more than a week continuing to grind an sp build, especially with how much expectation I build upon myself, but remind me of this challenge when it's out, in case I'm interested.
@ZeroWithSlashedO see, I'm interested in just pushing people to the limit. The Upvotes don't really matters that much to most people who'd participate... It's just a really big prize compared to the usual. As long as you're ready to use your expertise to the max within a 25 days time period, you're good to enter
I'd like a challenge
but I'm busy with another thing and I can't be bothered with making a project that is months due of work
@BeastHunter gotta put something out just in case yk
I can help do upvoting but I don’t think I would be able to build a plane of that caliber.
@11qazxc yeah it's gonna be a painful process for sure, I'm just gonna fudge it to be perfectly honest. A couple planes (geometrical planes) and then another label that renders a crappy picture of the tutorial plane. Maybe some kind of dragging the pieces together as well. Obviously not much physics integration or anything but I do think it's doable.

Someone here might be interested in this. It's somewhat opposite but he wants to squeeze whatever's possible from SP too.
@32 There's no addressing so storing anything will be a pain.
Like if you need to use Nth piece of memory on real machine it's selected inside RAM chip, but if you want to do it in FT you need to compare N for every piece there is, that's log2(length) ternaries to get something and a setter per piece to store something in variables.
There's no way to get additional space at runtime, so you'll need to process all setters you'll ever need even if you don't need them at the moment.
Izzy's renderer uses points, not faces and it also needs a piece of label for each point you might need to render.
So even if it's possible de-jure, there's no CPU that can process that with reasonable speed.
@RestlessGalaxies I have 1 question, would a project i have already been working on be allowed? or not
@Axartar I have a very similar plan actually. Entering itself won't be hard. Getting the prize will be.
If you have anyone else who has the same ideas or interests as you right now, let them know this posts exists. The more of a collaboration I can encourage, the better. This is meant to be the grand bye bye to Simpleplanes 1, after all.
yes, im happy to help with upvotes, although i think the trick is to make the entry requirements low, to drum up engagement, but add harsh criteria so its hella difficult to get top marks.
.
As for ideas ive been wanting to host an innovation challenge, where the aim is to have something entirely new, never before seen on the platform where the primary criteria are quality, and originality, because i feel like the usual ww2/ww1/fighter/bomber whatever challenges bottleneck who enters. all yours if you want it
@32 do it no balls
@RestlessGalaxies @TheMouse it honestly probably wouldn’t be too hard, IzzyIA released their 3D renderer code so if I can just mess with that I should be chillin
@32
Doo itttt
@32 wut 😭
I will make SimplePlanes inside SimplePlanes
@SkyJayTheFirst alright! Good to know! So far this plan seems like a go ahead.
Next... @Crazyplaness
Is there anything against using alts to meet a prize pool for a challenge?
I'll help with upvotes!
@SuperSuperTheSylph @ShinyGemsBro
[WARNING : MAY BE CALLED FALSE GOD AND GET MAULED]
Not that ridiculous, jokes aside (YES, THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS A JOKE). I'm thinking about doing a next gen fighter but with VTOL and air superiority
@ShinyGemsBro
[SLIGHT POSSIBILITY OF RAPTURE]
🤔🤔Sound interesting...bring it on!
@jamesPLANESii as already stated, it'll either be using alts, if mods say that's okay, or the friends I have who can help. So 100 really becomes 25 across 4 people
As for the bit about setting the bar... Well, this is an ambitious challenge, so for questions like that, I made this post so we can atleast get some discussion started. Maybe you can help with some ideas? My thoughts on that was too keep seperate thresholds for different skill levels and let each entry still get a decent 10-20 upvotes from me alone.
@jamesPLANESii The secret ingredient is crime.
And alts.
A lot of alts.
A LOT of alts.
