AI Suicide Bombing

Mod Squirrel  8.8 years ago

So there's this tournament I'd like to enter on oceanview speedway that the Devs announced the other day. Naturally, being an avid user, I decided I'd give it a shot and make numerous aircraft designs which would be high speed and agile.

Unfortunately, having created numerous aircraft, all have suffered the same fate when put to the test on the circuit:

Death by AI

For some reason, on a couple of race sections, the AI seems to commit suicide, most notably at ring 12, where it has a habbit of pulling off an unnecessary manoeuvre which results in the aircraft upsidedown and hitting the ground in a matter of milliseconds.

I would put it down to an error with my device, but the same thing happens on my laptop. Is this supposed to happen? I mean it looks pretty pulling off these stunts in a slow moving aircraft, but I feel my design is being handicapped by the AI's suicidal tendencies.

I've tried everything from words of encouragement to messing around with the performance settings, but only to end up with the same result: Death by over confident AI.

Furthermore, if the AI does get passed the dreaded ring 12, it somehow manages to blind itself at about ring 19 and fly head first into a mountain... I wouldn't care but it was flying in a straight line... A STRAIGHT LINE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

Is there anything that can be done about this? Like giving the AI therapy and a pair of glasses?

On a serious note, it does feel like I'm being handicapped and I would appreciate anyone offering some tips on how to avoid "death by AI".

Something i found stupid was, one day, my patrol bomber(which i made and has very good manuverabliity) ran str8 into a mountain. Like not even trying. It just ran str8 into it. Didnt even try.

@Squirrel Try to slow the plane down by decreasing the throttle (It works!). And let the plane fly below 500mph then it won't crash.

@squirrel Try to slow the plane down to below 500mph (use the throttle, I have no idea why it will work.). This worked on my Android.

Glad I'm not the only one with this problem. On occasion, my aircraft are graced by miracles and are given the power of God. And my aircraft flies the course in 1 minute and 4 seconds, which is pretty damn quick. But it's so inconsistent that I don't want to enter it because of how many times it crashes!

I found this happening to me too, my entry works most times but I'd say 3/10 trials hit the ground or the mountain in the exact same circumstances OP mentioned.

I ran test with the AI and found that the sower aircraft work fine but the jets think that the ground is there freind and run into it, Surprisingly I have had some success with my DC-9 on some of the courses, but most of the time they do what your saying and think that the ground is there freind and slam into it or roll over and slam in the ground because reasons...

yeah. the ai have some sort of limit to how much pitch they think the plane has. so the over compensate.

@JetstreamAeroEngineering do you think people like spiritus raptor is going to have some trouble

It has happened to me, it's partly due to how the AI is programmed. You can overcome this by finding the right design
