This forum desperately needs a rebuild.

Mod TheLatentImage  8.7 years ago

This forum is a jumbled mess of topics and discussions. It is nearly impossible to navigate with any efficiency, and the lack of proper structure makes this a difficult place to conduct proper discussion.

Nearly every other forum I have visited has been set up in a more user friendly and much more efficient way. Many of them have a format that is similar to one another, except this one.

I know the developers have their hands full with all sorts of things in regards to the game aspect of simpleplanes. But, the website/forums are the other half of the gaming experience that all of us who are reading this right now also use quite a bit as well.

This place needs a new layout. I believe that is necessary for the continued growth of the game and community.

What do you guys think?

@TheLatentImage you have a good point, bit sometimes I find myself thinking that the simplistic format of the forums is what encourages part of the friendliness seen in the community. I can't help thinking that if we 'parcel the forums into sections' it might be the tipping point of the community.

Other than that I couldn't agree more. This place does seem a bit thrown together...

Maybe you could make different forums for different subjects. And keep them organized and up to date bu still easy to change if something updates or you come out with something really cool and you want some people to know about it and some you don't. Just treat your forums like you build your planes, it's your own style of doing things that counts.

If we could see who we follow are following that might be a nifty feature. Might help exposure for some?

@Warbrine I don't understand why people think that because we're moderators that we have any control over the content of the game or the website. All we do is moderate the content on the website. We're regular players who have a handful of tools to use to moderate the website content. That's it man. We have just as much play in getting new stuff added to the game as everyone else. Why would I make a forum post about it if I could just make it happen?

I have been pushing for a rebuild ever since these forums rolled out. FullFruntal and I even have our own simpleplanes forum that almost nobody uses but is much better set up.

I'm surprised I FOUND this post... lol
But indeed it does need a change, it's not the worst as it is now, but it could be much better

I would love if we migrated to a traditional BBS where we could separate threads by topic or category. I like the way that the user-made proboards forum is organized.

    - Stories / Roleplays
    - Mods
    - Off-Topic
    - Bugs
    - Support (Questions about the game)

@ShatterFox that's right you did. My apologies. Well... tags hardly qualify either. Tags are supposed to be a help with the search function. They don't create categories and subcategories

    @TheLatentImage I said tags e.e

@ShatterFox it doesn't have sufficient categories. "Hottest, Newest, and Highest Rated" hardly qualify as proper categorisation.
