To all the high ranked players out there, do you have any favorite tips or suggestions to offer the rest of the community?
I'm certainly not a highly ranked player, but I one tip I use a lot is that a player can merge two parts together or "submerge" a part by putting the part in question (a bomb rack and bomb or cockpit) onto a smaller (say, .25 x .25) fuse piece, then making the fuse bigger to hide the bomb or cockpit part...
Any other helpful hints out there?
Rotating and mirroring parts can also help merge blocks together
I'm not a high point player, but make accurate and big planes. My Osprey got mountains of attention. And it was bland. And a modification.
Be original. I've spent days testing, crashing and rebuilding planes for them to get meager downloads, but a half-assed car with a quick paint job and a craigslist-like description became one of my highest downloaded creations.
@ChiChiWerx no problem, buddy.
@EternalDarkness awesome hints, I honestly hadn't thought about ship building, so thanks for the insights!
@Sunnyskies you can do it on mobile, its just a lot harder...** nudging
-When making a ship, make sure that the hull with the basic superstructure is seaworthy before detailing.
-When making a ship, hull is best made by stacking three layers of fuselage blocks on top of each other. Bottom layer shouldn't have any buoyancy, but should have fuel and dead weight. Middle layer should optionally have a little bit of buoyancy. Top layer should have a lot of buoyancy. Superstructure should be as light as possible.
-If you want your build to be noticed, use light colors. Against dark background of the editor, light colors will make your model stand out.
-When building a land vehicle, key word is suspension. Any noob can put wheels on a fuselage block. Use those shocks. Simple is ok, but no suspension means noob quality vehicle.
-Underwater propellers are easy to make. Xml edit the cord scale (blade thickness) to above the in-editor limit. Make them look like ship propellers, and they'll work as ship propellers.
-Be friendly. Good models won't get you far if you treat others like garbage.
I hope these will come useful.
@Sunnyskies I understand nudging is only available on the PC version now, correct? I tried it recently (using the arrow keys), but did not see the part move at all...
Fly out your base design first, then add detail.
Yeah.
Get good at nudging.
It's the best feature for precision building (at least for those who CAN nudge).
