We weed out the extra accounts used to cheat-upvote as they crop up, but there's something to be said about those of you who get too worked up about all of this..
They are imaginary internet points. Sometimes it works like a popularity contest. Is it always fair? No. Even with vigilante justice from jealous detectives discovering the 'cheaters' who game the system, there will still be those who slip through the cracks.
Even though it may be a flawed system due to our own human natures, I think this system still does a damn fine job of showcasing some of the better designs, designers, and community contributors. It works.
Even though there may be a tiny little fraction of players who really milk it for a handful of points, it's not really an issue that cripples the system. Their silly needs for affirmation doesn't truly impact your experience.. or at least you shouldn't foster any bitterness over it. A bigger issue, in my humble opinion, is people who care too much about imaginary internet points.
It's all about your attitude. Be more like Tesla, and less like Edison.
I still don't understand what the hell the points are for which is why I prefer people to comment on my planes about what they think rather then upvote it
@BeryllCorp No, that phrase wasn't directed at you at all. I was making a very general statement about people who go above & beyond to find faults in an imperfect world. Not that I meant in a negative way, though.
That thread was one of many. I mean, I get it. People can get frustrated, even over petty nonsense, and feel the need to do something. Anything.
I'm not saying that it's not against the rules anymore, because we still ban those who do so, and we'd like to think we catch the most frequent cheaters. However, the attitudes from some of the more aggressive players on the website are toxic and contagious, and I thought I'd frame it in a way that helps others break away from that mold.
@joeysellers I strongly support this kind of attitude towards points and upvotes. But I would like to have some clarify something here. First, I'll assume you are refering to this thread.
..........
first, I disagree with that thread because It will affect me if it would be implemented as Ngoat described it.
..........
second, you said "vigilante justice from jealous detectives" and I felt it was directed to me since I was the one who suggested such thing in the comments. I would like to clarify that I'm not jealous of anyone's internet points. The reason I suggested such thing is because I felt it was inappropriate in disagreeing to Ngoat's thread without offering an alternative solution that has worked in the past
..........
thats all, Thanks!
What if the successor system was reversed. Each grandson and great grandson gets less points, but the original gets full.
Well... You know what I mean@TimothyWong
Amen!
@bspboy greatest speed read ever
How to be more like Tesla and less like Edison
Great post. This is what I've been thinking, but could not put into words.
I see a potty word!! Lol.
@Flightsonic there's just been people complaining like usual. Nothing new
Wait... Did something happen that I didn't hear about?
I think the system is good right now better than the stars because some people would get made for 3 stars. I think the successor system should be reinforced if there is any way to track the original plane back to its original creator with all the modifications mounted.
Id rather be like Tesla. He played more fair.
starts clapping
Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison@Eckosong
To add on to this, everyone is either looking at the hottest or highest rated planes, but not the newest. Looking at the newest will give newbies chances to get points.
I never thought of them as imaginary virtual internet points. But then again, they aren't really imaginary since you can see them on the top of the screen with big numbers that spell POINTS.
TommyWary downloaded my best design, then created a new account, downloaded my design from his other account, then deleted his old account so I can't get points from that. Which really sucks for me. I think he's banned now or something, because I haven't seen any copies of my designs ever since, which for me is something I can be happy about.
I'll let the Oatmeal explain Tesla & Edison.
