Alternative Realities. Places where the unimaginable can be found. Imagine the advancements in technology possible with foreign science.
10 years ago, we at the AMC Research Labs were experimenting with a portal. Shortly after it was built, the pressure created sucked 4 people in (2 builders, 1 researcher and 1 passing worker if you need to know). No one heard from them until about 6.9 years later. By then, only the researcher had survived, all too excited to tell everyone about what he saw. Unfortunately, no one believed him and it was dismissed.
This was until a team of 6 people restarted the portal, entered it and returned, with the same findings. But this time, they had the goods to prove it. Subsequent expeditions through the portal helped discover a new powerful kind of energy.
Interactions with humans and other subspecies (of which there are quite a few) in this alternate reality show that there are "...four attributes of this energy
, Blaze, Ice, Vacuum and Lightning that form unknown
. These are different from the four elements of earth, fire, water and air that form the material world."
Further experiments show that all living (and most once-living) organisms (as well as some stones and other by-products) contain small amounts of this energy. They seem to absorb it from the surroundings, and at the same time, release it in a similar way to Diffusion. However, most of these organisms are unable to use this energy. Larger organisms usually hold more energy, as there is a physical limit partially based on volume (and mass). Most (organisms) never reach close to this limit.
However, trained humans (mages) are somewhat able to get close to 80% of this boundary, compared to the 20% of most humans in the area. Some of the human subspecies (of which named to those in popular culture as they are similar) seem to have higher (energy) properties. Some humans and others can use this energy to manipulate the surroundings, harming or healing others in the process. Like us, they are still learning more about the mysterious energy. The power can even be boosted with the use of certain tools, usually long and thin (that's what she said) and made of a few special materials.
A method to replenish said energy for organisms already exists, but it is diluted for organism use. More on that later...
Seems interesting, right? But it is still a dangerous place. We have got ambushed by bandits many times. Luckily, they haven't got a gun. Watch for the giant bears too!
Back to us. We have found an advanced method to extract, contain and use this energy without having to train one of us into a mage (they say it is a long and tiring process, and besides, only about 5% of humans display "magical" properties). That's right. We now have machines to keep us safe from the constant attacks of rival alliances. For example, Operation ShipsBane was one of the first experiments with this energy. This weapon destroys enemy machines in a matter of seconds and works with airships too. Modified versions of this weapon were installed on the HM-14 Alien. This energy has fond its way into civilian life as well. It can fuel power plants and is required for the popular hover car class of land vehicles. (Hover cars are fairly safe and provide excellent comfort when offroading. They also provide less resistance, allowing for greater speeds.)
So, anything left? The new power source is compact, almost 100% efficient (wastes very less energy) and very powerful. It has over 9000 times more power to volume ratio than conventional fuel and 1/4 the price of Ender energy, a very similar power source. In fact, a (power) cell the size of a 4.5V battery is capable of powering a walker similar to those being tested for use on E.D.N III for 6 hours (Compared to a T-ENG tank that is almost the size of a human that only lasts 1-3 hours). If all goes wrong, you can even throw the power cell at your enemy.
Note: a typical liquid of this energy for mages' use has 2mp/cm3 (that is the unit of amount of potential energy for this special form of energy), compared to 1500mp/cm3 for a thick, unstable source used in power cells.
That's all for now. Maybe even better energy sources can be found in subsequent Alternative Reality Portal expeditions.

Heh, the random 'facts' listed above are those made my brother and I and are mainly based off Astonishia Story (it's a 2006 game)
Nice joke
