HOW TO: Working Flaps???

12.6k Aviation  7.3 years ago

Hey, so Ive been trying to make airliners and other planes, and have always wanted to incorporate flaps that worked and were useful, not just aesthetic. Does anyone know how to position the COM,COL, whatever else I would need to do so that they become functional? The best I've gotten is flaps that move the right way, but have the opposite effect on lift. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Yeah, on my yet-to-be-uploaded-787X it just seemed to act like airbrakes, the flaps... well extra airbrakes i guess

    Can someone make a VTOL wing that rotates the control surface 90 degrees for missile bay doors?

    Use fuselage pieces and put separate fuselage wings inside, it will actually work, instead of only making your plane pitch down, my Super Etendard could be an example of that working if you were to just put some fuselage wings in there.

    @Aviation you simply can't simulate it here. I guess the airliner dudes can help you. @BaconAircraft

    What I have been trying to use are flaps @Alienbeef0421, and like how 747s extend flaps on landing, whenever I do that with my airliners, they just pitch down. I'll post an unlisted plane and link you it so you can see what I mean

    @Aviation look at my planes. Did you actually mean slats?

    @Aviation Have you tried to invert them?, I havent seen that happeniing

    Yeah I've used a separate structural wing (like in my dive bomber), but it had no effect on lift, whatever. Also, when putting control surface flaps down, the plane would pitch down @Alienbeef0421

    You must be using a separate wing for a flap.

    For a simpler version,

    Try XMLing a control surface.
    Here's what you'll edit:

    input=VTOL
    maxDeflectionDegree=40

    Note: the left wing must be inverted

    What do you mean by opposite effect on lift?
