Apparently the 747 had a "father"...

(from Wikipedia) The Aviation Traders ATL-98 Carvair was a large transport aircraft powered by four radial engines. It was a Douglas DC-4-based air ferry developed by Freddie Laker's Aviation Traders (Engineering) Limited (ATL), with a capacity of 25 passengers and five cars, loaded at the front. Huh, neat. I actually first saw this about 5 minutes ago when I was looking at pictures of the dc 5. I know someone will be like, "hey, that's not the 747's father!". I know that. It just looks a lot similar to a 747 and it has piston engines.

I've always imagined what an ATL-98 Carvair, powered by four Rolls Royce "Dart" turboprop engines would look like.
