Will SR2 stop the development of SP

26.1k TheGuyYouMightKnow  6.3 years ago

So far SR2 is looking good! I'm wondering if SP's already slow development will come to a hold when SR2 comes out. It would certainly make sense as SR2 will likely be Jundroo's best selling game as it's a cheaper alternative to buying KSP which means it will likely get more attention from ya boi Andrew Garrison.

@AndrewGarrison Please keep developing and updating and working on simpleplanes! Please never delete the game! Simpleplanes is awesome!

@AndrewGarrison Just thought about this and idk if you've mentioned it before is there an idea for multiplayer in SR2? Also what about plane parts like propellers? Chances are good that people will move over to SR2 to build planes along with rockets!

@AndrewGarrison Really? That's kinda surprising, it looks like a direct upgrade to SP! I was expecting something along the lines of $20

@TheGuyYouMightKnow About the same as SimplePlanes, but we haven't made any final decisions yet.

@AndrewGarrison Could you could give us a price range for SR2 atm?

@AndrewGarrison Think the website will ever let us see who follows us? Seems like something it should have by now?

@TheGuyYouMightKnow @lliamlegoguy Fall 2018 is my optimistic guess for the 1.8 update.

@lliamlegoguy True, although SR2 will likely give SP more exposure!

Yes, but updates bring new players and more intereasting things to the game. It’s not exactly that I’m worried of sp going anywhere, but simply that the game is “complete”@TheGuyYouMightKnow

@lliamlegoguy I don't think SP is going anywhere, just isn't getting anymore major updates. Although @AndrewGarrison , is there an idea of when 1.8 will come out? I'm curious as to what will be added!

@jamesPLANESii No, we have a set of textures available for parts. I'm not referring to decals. Decals would be nice...

Wait. We will be able to put decorations on them? 😃@AndrewGarrison

We don't have any plans for any more major updates after 1.8 for SimplePlanes, but that is not set in stone. I hope you'll consider checking out SR2. We've put a lot of effort into improving the building process. The fuselage parts have been improved a lot, parts support texturing, the designer tools are much better, etc. I can't wait to see what players will be able to build with all the new features.

Didn't one of the devs in the latest minor update say they were going to do a 1.8 update? I believe SP will probably only receive major updates until 2.0 MAX.

@s5ehfr9 That would definitely be nice, but I don’t think it would be that simple to just “enable compatibility”. Plus, if the devs intended for people to be able to bring SP creations into SR2, then they would’ve just updated SP to include rocket parts and planets instead of making an entirely new game.

I'd say it would be very nice if SR2 had the same customizable fuselage and other parts as SP, and the crafts of the two games were to be compitable to each other. The biggest advantage of SP is its great customizability of parts, and I think it will also be the greatest advantage of SR2 over KSP: Players can build whatever shape they want without the limitation of what the parts look like.

So why should we make the crafts compitable? Sandbox games like SP or SR2 need a large community, and if we make the crafts exchangable between the two games, the size of the community gets a lot bigger. Also, a lot of people (at least the ones I know) who are alredy playing SP would want to build in both games and making the crafts compitable would make the life of these people a lot easier.

Personally, I'm hoping SR2 doesn't completely replace SP. I mainly use this game to build land and sea vehicles, and SR2 seems to be focusing more on spacecraft and aviation. However, I do feel activity in SP will slow down significantly, as many users will probably move from this game to SR2.
