This is less of a discovery than more of an unknown and unused website feature.
Instead of putting links on posts and having a gazillion tabs open you can replace the code in the adress bar and go directly to the post without having to go through links. As an example here is a plane by SR https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/UUsM4z/Racer-X-Wing-FLEX-v1-0
Lets say you want to head over to another post and there is no link or you dont want to search the website for the post. Simply replace UUsM4z with FQ41QU and you will be sent to a different post, in this case its just a random plane of mine. This may also be useful for forum post where imputting all of the links would take a while so you can just put the codes in.

I wouldn't exactly call this new... Everything after the id in the URL is ignored. Also, have you tried pressing ctrl+L in the designer with the code copied? Amazing I know. Yes it also does it with the full URL
