We've got a small post-release update out on Steam public test branch (edit: it is now live on the public branch) that we wanted to get out as soon as possible for testing. We'd appreciate it if some of you could hop on and help us test it.
The main issue fixed relates to Mac users. The latest version had moved the settings and aircraft files to a new location, without moving all the settings/aircraft. No data was lost, we were just looking in the wrong location. The new version on public test has reverted those changes and will copy settings/aircraft back to the old location. The "correct" path is ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Jundroo.SimplePlanes/, and all designs will be merged into that folder after the game starts for the first time. See the lists below for the rest of the items in the update.
FEATURES
- Added "rate" and manual gyro modes for helicopter tail. Rate allows the tail to weathervane more, where heading hold generally will not. Rate may feel more natural to some people, although requires more corrective inputs. Manual is full-manual and will require trimming to compensate for torque changes.
- Added trim input and trim scale for helicopter tails (useful for manual tail mode).
BUG FIXES
- Fixed issue on Mac where settings and aircraft were being stored in an incorrect location.
- Fixed bug where heli rotor cyclicStrength XML scalar property wasn't being applied.
- Fixed bug causing reverse rotation on helicopter tails to cause inputs to appear reversed.
TWEAKS
- Changed versioning scheme to make it easier to keep in sync on different platforms
@NeonEndo @Prolex917 I'm using Android and all my Android mods seem to be working fine. I suggest you save all the XML files for your planes and then reinstall SimplePlanes. Remember to save all your planes, I didn't and I still regret losing all my cool Android planes sometimes.

@NeonEndo That might be a problem. Let me test all of mine now and I'll get back to you. I know that Starbound's Environment Settings works so far, I'll check Overload again at your request and the request of @Prolex917.
@XjayIndustrys By drifting, is it a banking sort of maneuver like it's strafing, or is it spinning at the blade axis? If it's spinning, that's by design. Helicopters IRL need tail rotors because the body wants to spin with the rest of the spinning blades.
If it's banking/strafing, I don't know what it is then.
@Prolex917 What XML modding are you using? I prefer WNP78's Overload mod. It still works for me.
I am assuming you're going into the XML and specifically finding the attribute for power multiplier?
hey are helis supposed to drift slowly to the side, or are choppas just getting repelled by a flat earth on an angle?
@ChaMikey I will try to think of some reason for that. I'll come back if I know anything.
@Minecraftpoweer yep, happens on every plane on the designer, I'm on a macbook air early 2011
I’m having a really weird problem with my game, it says I haven’t downloaded it on the App Store, and it says I was kicked out of the beta but I’m still in the beta version, I need help!
Like, >30 mods @small1324
@small1324 Im on windows. When I reduce the power of the engine the power stays the same no matter what I change
@WNP78 Nice work on the expansion, then! It'll be a lot easier with slower tankers. You're absolutely overhauling the mod! Thank you!
@small1324 yes, this update is adding a load of new tankers (kindly made by DestinyAviation) and also the ability to spawn your own tankers from your builds list. I have a custom UI in-level for this. I'm not sure if the mission is broken but I think the actual refueling parts have been broken since far before 1.8, just nobody noticed because it's so tricky.
@TakeYourLife3000 I wouldn't mind helping on a Swedish translation.
@ChaMikey What laptop are you using and does it happen on every plane?
Sir!We wanna help make chinese verson of simple plane.Let the china players know your view.whether agree or disagree
Can we get tank tracks NO MODS
Mods and Planes are now restored and back for my mac, FPS does feel a little bit better, I cant say anything about the helicopter parts as I am an absolute butt at making them.
The only issue I have is the game crashing if I'm playing too long in the designer.
I only have 2 possible answers which are ;
in which I'm leaning on the latter, but it'd be nice if theres a possible solution to solve the crashing issue.
[Edit : it still crashes in the designer even when its not hot, I have a big fan placed beside me to cool off the laptop and it still crashes]
Thanks for fixing the Missing plane issue!
@BoeyingOfficial Even better: A little note too. Not only can you add someone as a co-author, you can attribute a specific thing to them, like part of a build.
@TMR9001 Try angling the wing downwards using the transform tool.
@tylerdeveneuxmusic Yeah, I'm immediately surprised how much smoother bigger builds are running. Some incredible optimizations yo the code and I'm really happy about it.
@Prolex917 You can do so with XML modding. If you have an iOS device that doesn't support modding, you'll just need to ask the forums for example for the part you need modded to the speed you need.
Changing the speed of such an old part globally that's been used in so many builds will cause big issues with builds designed for the older speed of the engine. It's just not worth accidentally breaking so many planes.
@NeonEndo What kinds of mods? Mine are working just fine even if they are based on the older API.
@WNP78 Nice on that refueling mod update! One of the issues I have is that some planes I make are too slow for the tankers, could you add a variety of tankers that fly at different speeds in the map based on a menu setting or using the Mod Settings mod that HellFireKoder designed?
There was a refuelling mission but for some reason every plane I spawned in nosed down immediately, and I think (at least for Android) the mission is broken. Could you check up on that and maybe fix it for the update?
Nice! I mentioned before that picture-in-picture was being stopped when you opened the app for Android. It was either fixed in the original 1.8 or is fixed now and I thank you for that!
Edit: A tweak I'd enjoy is that a tire increasing in speed rapidly without traction or losing traction while being powered by an engine gives off smoke for the duration it doesn't have traction, so that when landing gear or resizable wheels land on the ground or drift cars start sliding, we get visible smoke? As a bonus, I'd even like to see different colors of smoke, and the ability to enable, change its color, or disable it as a function of the wheel.
