In most challenges, the game randomly says my plane has been damaged when it hasn't. When I crash the plane the game doesn't seem to notice.

I understand what your talking about, because I had the same problem fairly recently. I believe all I did was try a different plane, and from there on out, it was fine! If this doesn't work out, just let me know. I'll see if I can recreate the situation and figure it out for myself, then I'll let you know what I discovered! 👍
It could be the plane your using, try using the default P-51 and see what happens
How about not crashing the plane?
