Better Next Target is an experimental mod that aims to provide context-based target selection. Instead of cycling through targets sorted by load order, this program selects the target closest to the center of the screen.

The mod automatically moves the mouse to click on the target box when the appropriate key is pressed.

Hope Jundroo will add something like this, next/previous target only works when you have like 3 enemies, and moving the mouse to click the screen isn't going to cut it.

Notices:

• Known issue: Only works with fullscreen at the same resolution as the display
• Checking that the closest target is already selected is not possible, so the second closest target cannot be selected in such a case.
• The mod controls should be set different from the in-game target selection controls, to prevent selection conflicts.
• Will conflict with UI, custom cockpit elements and Mouse As Joystick mode.
• Won't work on 1.10 since UI is built differently.
• Not tested in VR. Probably won't work in VR since Jundroo appears to be planning on having separate flat-screen and VR components for UI.
• This mod uses user32.dll. There is no platform check, and what happens on Mac is untested. If you can find a way to generate a mouse click on Mac, please comment below.

CONTROLS

The controls can be customized by changing the contents of the respective file in the directory [ SimplePlanes folder ]\NACHSAVE\NEXTTGT\. Enter one Unity KeyCode in each line, without the KeyCode prefix. There can be one or more keys that must be pressed. Either the keyboard or joystick control can be used to call a target change.

Default keyboard control (NTKEY.TXT): O

Default joystick control (NTJOY.TXT): Joystick1Button3
This corresponds to Y or Triangle.
