K-37D Al-Asad
Development History
The K-37D Al-Asad, or löwe, meaning lion, is an all-weather supersonic, twin-engine, multirole combat aircraft, designed as a strike fighter. Designed by Kriegsmotoren LuftKampfer and Baqr Aero, the K-37D was used by Rashidun Air Force and Kriegs Luftwaffe. The Al-Asad is also used by the air forces of several other nations.
The K-37D Al-Asad was designed to be a highly versatile aircraft due to its avionics, cockpit displays, thrust vectoring capability and excellent aerodynamic characteristics, with the ability to carry a wide variety of weapons. The aircraft can perform fighter escort, fleet air defense, suppression of enemy air defenses, close air support, and aerial recon. Its versatility and reliability have proven it to be a valuable military asset. It was designed as a Joint program between Baqar and Kriegsmotoren during the Rashidun Caliphate crisis , with Sheikh Huseyn obtaining the program to fight Yezid VI’s military power. Huseyn’s military were in crucial need of a jet fighter, to eliminate air supressions from Yezid VI’s reign.
In 1994–1996, an initial batch of seven original K-37 fighters, contracted for the Rashidun Defence Ministry, were delivered to 13th Defence Fighter Regiment based at Abu Fazl Al-Abbas air base. No further orders of the variant were made. On 21 September 2012, the K-37D performed its maiden flight. The Rashidun Air Force has received first two serial aircraft on 22 November 2012. By end of 2015, 17th Fighter Aviation Regiment, which was the last regiment using cold war fighters, was fully rearmed with about twenty new K-37D fighters.
