The US Government needed a lightweight, cheap fighter in the 1970s - 1990’s designed specially for air-to-ground combat. It served in the Cold War, and was a success. It had taken out a total of 40 enemy planes during its time that it served in the Cold War. It had not much weaponry, but bombs that did devastating damage, and best worked on convoys. It has a fearsome minigun aswell. In 2010, it was retired, and later held in museums. One was saved for aerodynamic testing at NASA.
