MICA Air to Air Missile
MICA" is a "Missile d'Interception et de Combat Aerien". It is the fourth generation of air-to-air missile developed by Matra Corporation and equipped for the army in the 1980s to replace "Matra" super 530F/D medium range interceptor missile and R550 "Magic" 2 short-range combat missile. As early as 1979, when Mattra Company successfully developed the "Mattra" super 530D and improved the development of the "Magic" R550 air-to-air missile, the French Ministry of Defense began to consider developing an air-to-air missile that could be used in the 1990s and later to counter advanced high mobility fighters, helicopters and cruise missiles. The missile was designed to be capable of both over the horizon launch and combat, and was commissioned in 1997. The composite guidance is adopted, that is, the command is used to control the trajectory first, and the missile borne radar is used to track the target when it is close to the target 15km or more, with strong anti-interference ability."Mika" air-to-air missile is a model comparable to the advanced medium range air-to-air missile (AMRAAM) of the United States in France, and is highly praised for its accuracy and controllability. This type of missile has been selected by the French Dassault "Rafale" fighter. The improved system, which combines active search radar and far infrared homing, has the unique function of locking medium and short range targets for interception. The performance of the Mika missile is enough to pose a competitive threat to the American advanced medium range air-to-air missile.
