Stork STOL testbed with folding extra wings

My old 'Stork' VTOL research plane fitted with two pairs of foldable wings.

When deployed they triple the total wing area and lower the takeoff speed from 95 to 50 mph. However it took me a whole day of tinkering to get the position of the wing joints right and deploying the STOL wings in flight is still pretty tricky. So all in all, it seems that deployable extra wings are possible but not an ideal solution unless you are prepared to do some serious fine tuning.

Feel free to download the plane and experiment yourself though
