Just kidding, it's based on both yet legitimately neither. Meet the FT-4 "Repeater."
This here is the Repeater.
It was intended to replace the FT-3 Relentless, with said plane being a late first-gen fighter (eventually second gen thanks to upgrades), but this never really happened thanks to the Relentless surprisingly having several advantages, namely agility, missile payload, and pretty low maintenance.
Regardless, the FT-4 still had its strengths, and was put into service. It was especially fast compared to most fighters at the time, never really needing to turn-fight either due to missile attacks or boom-n-zoom tactics.

MiG-21s were the most common foe for the FT-4, but it scored a few MiG-19 wins.
Despite its small looks, the FT-4 was surprisingly rugged, and could bring a pilot home safely even when damaged badly in combat. This one was actually damaged by the wingman of the MiG-19 just shown.
The FT-4 played some secret operations during the S-War, especially during the hurricane. Definitely not foreshadowing, right?
