Well it works better than I expected.
This is the model that features all the main systems and mechanisms of a modern car:
- "Internal Combustion" piston powered engine (Pure piston action! No nozzles, no engines, no fuel consumption)
- 2-gear manual transmission with Reverse
- Rack and Pinion front wheel steering mechanism
- Rear axle differential
- All wheel independent suspension
To start engine simply set Throttle to 100%. Steer with Roll. Shift gears with Trim slider.
By default 1st gear is on. To switch to 2nd, move the slider up to 1/2. For Reverse move it all the way up (try not to do it on full speed).
The vehicle is somewhat slow but perfectly ridable. It is even able to climb slopes and can be used to explore local islands (no, because of differential).
Enjoy!

@Code33 thank you! :)
v4 Engine so cool
@iwannabeelected Challenge accepted
@Blitz2848 this build is almost 6 years old, it definitely needs a successor or a good remake ;)
I have always wanted to do something like this since i figured out a repeatinh cycle piston could make mechanical power like this...now i have a little inspiration! The most satisfying build ever!
@iwannabeelected I wish I was as good as you I may have decent concepts but you have better ones and you build them Better
@iwannabeelected not really I’m just stumped I’m still trying to figure it out I have to make a specially designed piston propeller engine because you’re isn’t fast enough and is made for a car so that’s where I am stumped
@Supernovaboss504 why?
@iwannabeelected I’ve kinda given up on the whole piston plane thing
@Supernovaboss504 thank you! :)
@iwannabeelected I don’t even know what to say to this it’s just so good
@0n33 thank you :)
Made on android..
Perfect mechanism..
Dis is godly brain
@Galland thank you! :)
I'm working on an improved version. It is extremely modded. I turned each piston into an engine, modded semi-detachable points and stabilized the engine block. Now it can go above 40mph without falling apart. Max speed (Gear 2): 79mph downhill. Almost done, I am currently working on the last bit of powertrain and the headlights.
Cockpit detatched version plz....@iwannabeelected
created on: Android
wow you beast
@iwannabeelected nice. Cant wait to see it!
@AeroEngineering thank you! Yes, it's terribly slow. Unfortunately I couldn't find the way to make the engine spin faster.
The key factors are offset pistons and heavy weight of the crankshaft (you can see that almost all parts have a 1000 lbs of dead weight). The first one is to make sure the engine rotates in right direction, and increased weight allows it to work correctly under load.
By the way I'm making now a 4WD version and hopefully will post it soon.
A bit slow, and the hysteresis is real. Aside from that, very impressive model.
Also, what's a good way to get piston powered engines in SP to work as smoothly as yours?
@jamesPLANESii thank you! Please don't forget to download it :)
It's fantastic. Remind me to download this in about 15 hours.
I can't believe I didn't notice this....
@Externaldarkness try changing speed and length of pistons. And as for teeth, it may be because of round fuselage blocks used as gear's core - they appear round but in fact they're not, and will interfere with each other. Try using long and thin parts in shape of a cross (see the big gear that stands after the engine, second from crankshaft itself in my design).
Oh, and try changing the dead weight of gear parts, it may also help in some cases.
@Externaldarkness please address these to developers of the game. There's nothing I can do with game's mechanics. Also the latter two never happened to me.
