A-3 Raven
Legacy series 2 Electric Boogaloo. Old meme, yeah. Not much ado about this plane till we get to the lore but a bit of it was heartily inspired by the F8F Bearcat American warplane.
As the war raged on into the end of its first year and the fighting grew more intense, a sudden concern was raised via the admiralty by naval aviators. Their fighters weren’t good enough. While the A-1 and its multitude of iterations had served as a suitable platform in regions where aerial supremacy was assured, they fared poorly as naval fighters, performing so shoddily at times that carrier groups often had to tentatively pick fights with their enemies who often flew better aircraft and in greater numbers. Something had to be done. The Wartime design board, a think tank of various aircraft designers and companies, came together to decide what to do.
Several designs later, the A-3 was born. The A-3 was a small but quick fighter, designed to perform well in a multitude of scenarios. Its primary role as an air-supremacy turn fighter was further augmented by its capabilities as a carrier fighter-bomber and a torpedo bomber, a rarity in naval aviation at the time. Its short wings ensured excellent turns, at the cost of energy retention, and a powerful engine meant it could climb with the best and come out on top. Several variants of the A-3 were built, each an iterative improvement over the last.
Controls:
Normal aircraft controls
Fire guns to fire guns
Fire weapons to fire weapons
[Hopefully, I haven’t missed anything out]
Not much to say. It flies pretty well. Oh, a note about numbering. Numbers are Squad based. Squad 76 was a rather famous squadron who held the record for the most carrier sunk in the war.
