A P0-DR-M of IS-2 squadron flies low over Maywar’s capitol shortly before landing. Note the rocket pods under the wings.

Design History:

Shortly after the Three Years’ War, the Wright Republic needed to secure funds to pay for war damages and produce new aircraft, as well as sell off outdated ones. Since the P0-DR had already appeared late in the aforementioned conflict and its effectiveness noted by many countries, Isles Consilidated (the major Wrightian manufacturer of the war) decided to make more fighters to export to increase revenue. Designated the -M model, it featured several downgrades to keep the national arsenal slightly more effective. 1000 horsepower engines were expensive and coveted at the time, so the engines were derated to 950 go each. The cannons under the nose were removed to limit its firepower to ensure other countries couldn’t use it against the Wright Republic as easily, and the maximum pylons under each wing was reduced to two, making mounting multiple rocket pods impossible. As with all models, the pilot’s cockpit was slanted down 5° to give a water view of the ground. First put on the military market in 2402 G.T., it was sold to over thirty countries, including Snowstone, Krakabloa, and Maywar. Additionally, the flap position indicator was deemed unnecessary and was replaced with a G force counter, but this would only work accurately with positive forces due to the gauge’s lower quality nature. The bomb bay and corresponding pylon mounts were retained, with several countries needing it as a multirole bomber.

Operational History:

By request of several countries at the time, specialized versions were made of it to suit different environments. The model pictured above, specifically a P0-DR-MT (for “Tropical”) featured two air coolers under the engines and less heat conductive metals to keep the critical systems and pilots cool when on the ground. Many countries would replace the .303 caliber guns with .50 cals, though Maywar was not among them, and the underwing pylons were removable to reduce drag when not in use. Its climb and speed properties were almost identical to its direct predecessor, the P0-DR-E, and so was an even match for any fighters it came up against. The aircraft here was used by its crew to shoot down three enemy aircraft and destroy four ground targets and was scrapped in 2420 G.T.

Controls:

Standard pitch/roll/yaw
VTOL down for flaps
AG1 for bomb bay
AG7 to jettison the outboard pylons
Look inputs for the rear gunner
Max speed: 280 mph at 11,300 ft
Stall: 82 mph
Climb to 15,000 ft: 1 minute 59 seconds (compared to the P0-DR-E’s of 1 minute 53 seconds

Notes:

  • I couldn’t get the forward guns to deactivate when the rear turret was active, I’m working on fixing that.
  • I also just got STEAM on my low-quality PC, so my screenshots will be of much better quality.

Have fun out there!
