On the outbreak of WWII, the soviet union was still allied with Germany but during Operation Barbarossa, the soviet needs scout planes for its capital ships to slow down axis advanced by the coast to St. Petersburg and other overseas operations. The soviets came up with Kalinin K-56 1939, a modified plane from 1915 and it was so ancient then that mahor overhauls were made with the wings, and the pathetic engine. The plane performed very well and was equipped on Soviet light cruisers to operate scout missions well into the end of WWII. By the, the K-56 was replaced with more modern designs and all were scrapped.
