The M18 "Super Hellcat" is probably one of the most popular tank destroyers that never actually existed. The "real" Hellcat used a modest 76 mm cannon from the M4 Sherman and featured paper-thin armor (It was a feature, not a fault). It was intended to carry mortars and Anti Air Artillery (AAA), but it proved itself to be one of the most effective tank destroyers of the war. By the end of 1944, the US was afraid the war wasn't coming to an end anytime soon, and German tanks were only getting bigger. To remedy this, engineers decided to put the turret of the M36 Jackson onto other chassis, like the M24 Chaffee, and the M18 Hellcat. Both platforms were capable of toting the 90 mm cannon with little modification. However, there was never a need, thanks to newer tanks like the M26. The idea was scrapped with one Super Hellcat ever built.

Though the Super Hellcat never fought in WWII, it made its fame in video games. As a fictional tank destroyer, you either like the thing or hate it, the latter being those at the receiving end of its 90 mm cannon. Personally, the Hellcat is not only my tank of choice, it's a way of life, demanding little room for error, as you place skillful shots across the battlefield while pretending to be a bush. I decided to bring this tank to Simple Planes as a Memorial day post. I kept the build relatively lite so it can work on my phone. This post is mostly for my use, but I guess you can check it out.
