The Hibou CAM was devised as an extremely maeuverable fighter for its early-mid 1950s era, and used canards and swept wings at a time when much of the world, including Dassault themselves, were standardising on tailess delta wings. CAM stood for "combattant avance manoeuvrable", meaning "advanced maneuverable fighter".
