Backstory:
During the late 1970s, into the height of the cold war, the navies of the US and the UK had a joint development program for an advanced carrier based air superiority fighter to counter the rising threat of the Soviets.
Grumman saw the potential of the twin boom De Havilland Sea Vixen, and thus collaborated with De Havilland to address the Vixen's flaws, which prevented the aircraft from going supersonic.
Integrating Grumman's Variable Geometry wing from the F-14 Tomcat, which entered service 3 years prior, the aircraft excels both in high speed flight and low speed flight. The Variable Geometry wings also helped with storing the aircraft in the carriers.
Capable of carrying and launching Red Top MK.2 missiles for close range combat and the Aim-54 Phoenix for longer range intercepts, the Foxcat was well armed for air superiority. The chery on top was the 20mm machine gun, which was useful in multiple dogfights the aircraft is expected to face.
Azur Diamonds:
One of the squadrons that had prominently used the Foxcat were the Azur Diamonds, which was primarily assigned to the Pacific Fleet near South East Asia. They served as the first line of defense against a possible Soviet strike on Hawaii
