This is a part one of a series inspired by the all-knowing Lt. Duckweed. Check him out on YT!
So, you find yourself wanting to make a futuristic fighter jet. Well, the Ace Combat series is damn good at it, so you want to try and replicate one of its key parts- the COFFIN system. Now, COFFIN is a abbreviation, but what it does is link cameras and sensors to screens or the pilots’ brain. Now, I am not a fan of the second option, and I think glass cockpits look better, but you cannot deny that these full enclosed cockpits look cool. And they also minimize g-forces, so any pilot can become absolutely bloodless like any recent pilot in the ace combat series. Not like we weren’t here, but…
So, how does this work, and how can I make my own?
We don’t have TV screens in SP, so we have to get a little creative. As a background, in pre 1.11 days, people would make their cockpits out of a single or two fuselages (what a word) and clip the camera inside. But we have a less barbaric option with the new cutting feature: Take solid glass fuselage, up the opacity to your preference(typically 100%), the cut part of the fuselage off with the slice feature. This makes a two-way mirrorn’t and you have a coffin- glass panel! However, making the cockpits are harder than making normal ones because you have to manually panel it. Just like Jamesplanesii made a whole post about.
So I hope I have helped you understand this game a bit better!
RRT out!
