SledDriver Flight Module v1
Video demonstrating the flight handling of this build
It seems a lot of people have a hard time figuring out the flight mechanics of SimplePlanes, and I'm sure quite a few of them quit the game in frustration. With those people in mind, I'm releasing my flight module that lets you make (almost) anything fly like a SledDriver build.
The module is delivered mounted in a very basic airframe, so you can get an idea of how it handles right off the bat. To use the module in your own builds, first, remove the airframe by dragging the central block (the one with the SD logo on it). What's left is the flight module. Drag that away from the cockpit and make it a subassembly.
To install it in any build, first, make sure the build meets these requirements:
- It must be built entirely out of zero-mass components.
- It mustn't have any wings (as in, no wing parts, cosmetic wings made out of fuselage blocks are fine). If you must use wings (say, to add control surfaces), make sure to set wingPhysicsEnabled to false on every wing component.
- Any engines on the build must have their powerMultiplier set to 0.
- The airframe of the build should be big enough to contain a 27-foot by 3.5-foot cylinder.
Then, attach a zero-mass helper block to your build at the rear, and make sure its X-position is exactly centered, i.e., 0. Attach the flight module to the helper block. Select the helper block, open the part transform tool, choose "connected parts" and then slide the entire subassembly into the interior of your build until it's hidden. That's it. Take your now smooth-flying build for a spin.
Controls
- Custom camera 1 for cockpit view
- AG1: Afterburner with instant acceleration/deceleration
- AG2: High agility mode
- Brake: reverse thrust, for slowing down quickly, both in air and after touching down
Usage
Whether you make your build a successor or not is up to you, though it would be nice to see how many people end up using this. Gentlemen will give credit.

@SledDriver How do you install it on mobile. I can't figure out how
@SledDriver
High speed flight characteristic is pretty decent.
For that, I will give my share of upvote.
How come do is this module weigh 20 tons?!
@SledDriver oh thanks for the tip
@WingMan You can, but that would probably ruin the balance of the aircraft unless you were very careful.
@SledDriver sooo why can't we make the thing faster with engines?
@Al3jandro6304 Background mod is Skybox pack, and the graphics mod is my own shader pack, linked on my profile.
Hey @SledDriver what graphics mod or whatever do you have and what background is that they both look cool
He has a special background that replaces the blackness and grey circle. It’s some mods that you can get that let you customize it or get different ones. I have a customizable one.
@Spectre2520
@mauripeke25 It comes down to:
That's it.
i have spent some time using it it works very well but i don't know how it works
@Spectre2520 Mods are supported on Android, but not iOS.
I thought that you used some kind of photoshop to make the background look that, but then I realize that it’s the original background. On mobile, the background is complete black. How did you change background (I don’t know if it’s possible on mobile) @SledDriver
@Spectre2520 Yup. Mobiles are toys compared to PCs.
Oh, now I see
And now I know how easy it is to do things on PC
A lot easier than mobiles @SledDriver
Thank you @SledDriver
@Spectre2520 Here you go.
@ballisticbullets I've already given away my VTOL tech and weapons :) I meant my ideas. You can copy a design, but you can't copy the thing that comes up with the designs.
Can you tell me how you make planes float on the ground?
Like creating a video that shows how to @SledDriver
@SledDriver eh, you are right. You still have your VTOL tech, weapons, and, like, just experience.
@ballisticbullets I have enough tricks up my sleeve, I can afford to be generous :)
I am a little sad that SD is going to give away something that makes his builds great and unique, however, yay! more planes with sled driver tech!
@SledDriver My comment was to apprise you that the build performed basic Jundroo flight without issues, on an older iPhone. No struggles here with flight mechanics.
@Mostly Thanks, although that's surprising. Why, because of the landing gear? :)
Really cool, probably one of my favorites since the Moray.
@Stingray You mean you're struggling with the flight mechanics of this thing? Or with SP flight mechanics in general?
