F1D-2 Roseta
The F1D-2 Roseta (F for fighter, 1 is the number of the designation given by the US Navy, D for Douglas and -2 for variant) is a heavy 2 engined carrierborne fighter carrying 4 30mm cannons on the wings. Has amazing speed and manouverability.
Development: In 1943, with Japan still having victories basically everyday in the Pacific, the US Navy need a new fighter to counterbalance the japanese Zeros, Geckos and soon to arrive Shindens. For that, the Douglas Aircraft Company (now known as McDonnel Douglas) was hired to build a faster, heavier and more capable fighter than the Hellcats, Wildcats and Bearcats used by the US Navy untill then. In 1944, the first planes arrived, designated F1D Roseta. They were less armed and slower than the japanese counterparts so after 3 months of work, the second variant (F1D-2 Roseta) was launched to massive success. While bigger and harder to carry on carriers, they made up for that in quality, shooting down over 554 japanese aircraft in 1 year of service. They were only retired in 1950, 1 year after the end of WW2.
Controls: Standard plane controls.
Note 1: This plane has no landing gear, so spawn it airborne.
Note 2: The designation is made after the model used by the US Navy before 1963 (Tri-Service designation system)
