M955 VADS
Background
The M955 Vulcan Air Defense System is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun in service with the Federation. The turret houses a 20mm Rotary Cannon and can be mounted on either an armored vehicle or a trailer. Four Wasp ManPADS are also mounted for a guided alternative to engagement.
The weapon is mounted on a modified M125 Puma. The system was designed to complement the M956 Puma LAAD System. The VADS uses a small targeting radar, the AN/VPG-43, and an optical targeting system for infrared, optical targeting and lead-calculating.
The gun fires at 3,000 rounds per minute in short bursts of 10, 30, 60, or 100 rounds, or fire in continuous fire mode at a rate of 1,000 rounds per minute. A linkless feed system is used. Maximum effective range of fire is around 1.8km with 2.8km range with saboted rounds.
