Grumman F-14 Tomcat

Introduction: The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a legendary American carrier-capable supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail, all-weather fighter aircraft. Developed by Grumman for the United States Navy, it was introduced in 1974 and served as the Navy’s primary maritime air superiority fighter, fleet defense interceptor, and tactical aerial reconnaissance platform until its retirement in 2006.

Development: The F-14 was developed in response to the failure of the General Dynamics-Grumman F-111B project. The Navy needed a long-range, high-endurance interceptor to defend its carrier battle groups against Soviet threats. The F-14’s design incorporated lessons learned from air combat during the Vietnam War, featuring variable-sweep wings for improved maneuverability and the ability to carry the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missile.

Operational History: The F-14 first flew on December 21, 1970, and made its first deployment aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in 1974. It replaced the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II and quickly became a symbol of American air power. The Tomcat was famously featured in the 1986 film “Top Gun,” which showcased its capabilities and cemented its place in popular culture.

Roles and Capabilities: Initially designed as an air superiority fighter, the F-14 evolved to perform precision ground-attack missions with the addition of the Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) system in the 1990s. Its versatility allowed it to excel in various roles, including fleet defense, reconnaissance, and strike missions.

Retirement and Legacy: The F-14 was retired from U.S. Navy service on September 22, 2006, and was replaced by the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Despite its retirement, the F-14 remains in service with Iran’s air force, albeit in limited numbers due to a lack of spare parts. The Tomcat’s legacy endures through its iconic design, impressive capabilities, and significant contributions to naval aviation history

@Christiant2 I found issue why wings wont sweep, the part of wing wich hinge rotator is connected to has connections to non-moving main part of the wing, after deleting connection it worked

@CatAeroTechnics Yea. There is a connection to the main body. Delete all of them exact the rotater. And them place the wings back on. :)

@CatAeroTechnics Hmmm click the link. And also save the cockpit and put it on the others one. Those wings were supposed to sweep. Also check the connections.
