Supercharged 1600HP V8 (Functional Intake+Exhaust)

4,364 Formula350  3.8 years ago

Built this for my "Experimental" aircraft (which will be submitted later; part of a Challenge), but wanted to export this part to offer up early as an option for people to use in their builds if they'd like. :)

Features:

-The air intake's butterflies move, based on Throttle value.
-Each exhaust port --inspired by the simple ones on WWII fighters- actually functions! There's a little bit of flame at idle, and a WHOLE LOT at wide-open-throttle!
-Big 'ol supercharger, for big ol' horsepower! Why should monster trucks and drag cars have all the fun, amirite?!

Finer Details Worth Noting:

1) Even though everything on the engine is connected to each other in some fashion, and most parts conencted to multiple other parts, I've been unable to click-and-drag on it to move the ENTIRE thing >_< The SP "engine" it's built around moves separate from everything else for some reason (I'm sure there's a logical one, I'm just too much of a n00b to know why). It's recommended you use "Fine Tune" mod and the Multi-Select everything at once in order to move it around... I'm sorry.

2) I've DISABLED the Drag Computation on all of the parts because otherwise SP sometimes likes to improperly calculate drag on mirrored stuff, which in this case caused a lot of roll/yaw... Sadly, unacceptable, so that's my work-around.

3) I've also massively modified the Mass scale for all/most of the parts, to make it more reasonable as a single-unit (and more realistic; a Chevy ZZ502 crate motor [no supercharger] weighs just over 700lbs). Otherwise it weighed like 3000+lbs and... caused my plane to flip itself after takeoff lol

4) IF YOU DO USE Fine Tune mod and multi-select everything to move stuff, be sure to select the two VERY SMALL Rotators on the inside of each intake butterfly valve (near center-line, connected to the black piece, hidden just inside the tapered inlets, which I've colored Yellow to try and contrast against the rest), AND also the 'bolts' on the front of the supercharger. Otherwise everything else is big enough to see while clicking.

5) The VTOL Ports for the exhaust all have their Rotation disabled, and their "Throttle" input profile is modified to let them "idle" at a higher level, so you do not need to touch them for any reason! They are static props.

6) The VTOL Engine is hidden inside the supercharger body (the silver fuselage part), and its Engine Power has been modified to ZERO so that the Ports being used as exhaust will not produce any thrust. As a result, I changed it to also have zero mass, since it's only being used for the requirement for ports to produce fire.

7) There is a black/silver-center Fuel Can on the back of the supercharger, modified with 2,642 Gal of fuel and also has a mass of 0. It probably won't last very long with 1600hp, but in conjunction with whatever fuel is elsewhere on your vehicle, it should help quite a lot. (I... don't THINK the VTOL engine will consume any, being set with zero power??)

Free-Use Terms:

Again, you are free to use this on anything you'd like, and do NOT need my permission. All I ask is to be mentioned in the description if you share what you've made. You're also free to make any modifications you see fit -- and if you think you've make it look better, be sure to @ me in a comment so I can check it out :D

Enjoy!
