AN/VPS-88 GATOR
Pitch and Roll to steer. LandingGear to raise and lower radar. VTOL to slew radar to direction.
The AN/VPS-88 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar, or GATOR, is a Paternian truck-mounted mobile radar system developed by KRIEG. The system replaces numerous legacy systems such as the AN/TPQ-52 Counter-Battery Radar, AN/TPS-48 Air-Traffic Control Radar, and AN/TPS-63 Short-Range Air Defense Radar.
The AN/VPS-88 GATOR and its towed AN/TPS-88 GATOR variant gained international fame during the Japan War for its role in the destruction of Sentian artillery batteries. The GATOR, when employed as a counter-battery radar system, allowed Paternian forces to pinpoint the location of Sentian self-propelled guns while the shell was in midair.
The process was so quick that Paternian 155mm howitzers on the counter-battery mission would have fired their shells at Sentian batteries before their shells hit the target. Within the first days of the invasion, 85% of all Sentian artillery were destroyed by Paternian 155mm howitzers aided by GATOR.
After that point, Sentian guns either engaged from densely-populated areas in order to prevent Paternian counter-battery fire from attempting to neutralize them out of fear of collateral damage, or inaccurate harrassment fire.

@Pilotmario ah
I may have stated that air defense sets were employed as ad-hoc counterbattery radar systems. This system, while not exactly matching this description due to the explicit CB capability, is still compatible since these systems are primarily employed in air defense roles. @PyrusEnderhunter
Corrections: We used 6 divisions and seven independent brigades or equivalent strength units. I have no exact numbers on UDC and Berusian Forces which participated, but their total numbers equal to that deployed by the Paternian military.
Secondly, battalion-level organization was abolished in 1948 following a thorough analysis of combat performance. The largest unit under a division was the regiment, which by the 1970’s grew to the equivalent of a brigade. However, the title of regiment was retained for morale purposes.
Thirdly, we are allowed to employ real-life equipment if an equivalent system has yet to be made. The use of counter-battery radar systems in neutralizing your artillery was stated. @PyrusEnderhunter
@Pilotmario Now, you see, that’s the problem. You win against a massive force using nothing but a couple of battalions because, well, you say so. Then you create some thing to explain how you won—but long after the event occurred. Then you say that thing was always there, even though you didn’t even create it at the time of the battle. I thought the rules were that you battle using WHAT YOU'VE CREATED AT THE TIME. I wouldn’t take over the world in RP-year 1960 while taking only light casualties, and then two months later make some OP thing to explain how I managed to win...
@PyrusEnderhunter It was always present, canonically.
It was simply referred to as counter-battery radar.
@Pilotmario then why wasn’t this thing present at the time of the event?
@PyrusEnderhunter It always was.
@Pilotmario yeah, NOW.
@PyrusEnderhunter This is part of the fire control system of the howitzers.
@Pilotmario you explained the howitzers—not this.
@PyrusEnderhunter I thought I already explained it two years ago.
I love it how you explain your impossible wins—a couple of years after the thing took place in the RP
insert sentians screaming here
Thanks! @phanps
Very naise.
