NCN Armed Reconnaissance Airship

LORE:

During the later months of the War of the Schism, the Northreach Consortium Navy made extensive use of small, lightly armed aerial reconnaissance craft as their forces pressed deeper into territories controlled by New Caldera. By this point in the conflict, both sides were building airships meant to endure the harsh demands of aerial combat.

The frame was reinforced alumiron, able to survive glancing impacts with other vessels, and her multiple redundant gas cells were capable of providing sufficient lift with any two cells fully deflated. Turns were assisted with automatic variable thrust maneuvering, which gave the ship a tighter radius of reversal and allowed a rapid return to cruising speed with minimal cognitive load on the pilot.

Both engines could be controlled simultaneously via the primary throttle lever, or switched into independent mode for more experienced operators who appreciated the flexibility this provided.

Buoyancy was controlled via a single-lever system. Lifting gas was added to the cells when the craft needed to climb, and was returned to tanks via a compressor when it was time to descend.

Two turrets, one keel-mounted and one dorsal, provided the craft with a fearsome deterrent for any would-be aces looking to add another envelope to their list of kills.

CONTROLS:
All controls are accessible, functional, and labeled on the bridge.

  • Activate 1 and 2 for engine start
  • Activate 5 for turret controls (disables rudder and elevator inputs)
  • Deactivate 8 for independent throttle controls (separate throttle levers - use with caution)
    -Pitch is Pitch
-Roll is Yaw (I play on mobile and I like single-stick controls for aircraft that don't really use the roll axis)
-VTOL is buoyancy (neutral is slight negative buoyancy)

This craft is my latest attempt to build something that actually looks and flies at least kind of like a real airship, so everything happens slowly. She does not climb or descend quickly. Plan ahead.

[I'm not really sure what the cut-off is for the "This plane is huge" warning, but this plane is apparently huge. It runs without lag on my Pixel 6. YMMV ]

@DISHWASHER2005 @Boeing727200F I'm sensing a theme here with these design notes... The next one will be longer and slimmer, I promise! 🤣
