Sputnik 1, was the first man-made earth satellite developed and launched by the former Soviet union. In short, it is a metal sphere 0.58m in diameter and weighing 83.6kg, containing two radar transmitters and four antennas, as well as multiple air pressure and temperature regulators. Its purpose is to signal to earth changes in air pressure and temperature in space.
