Helicopter Basics CW
This is not a working helicopter. This is the absolute most basic starting point for building a working helicopter. I have built a completely stable QuadCopter using an older version of this rotor design which can be found on my design page. There are two versions of this design the Clock Wise(CW) and the Counter Clock Wise(CCW). The suggested way to use these designs is to download each design, remove the cockpit then save the rest of the design as a subsystem noting which design rotates in what direction.
For the best results you will want to make sure that the bottom blocks of this rotor design are not touching the ground. Some other designers have tried adding wheels to the inside of my design to keep the rotor shaft centered but I have found that this produces a good bit of vibration and reduces the rotor speed. So, I do not suggest this approach, at least until there is a completely smooth block that would go inside the wheels.
The rotor blades do have flaps that you can assign to any of the 3 commands Pitch, Yaw, or Roll so that you can control your final designs. You can also use the invert option to give you even more control. However, the blades are angled in such a way that they provide lift without any input other than throttle.
This design comes with VTOL nozzles attached but you can replace them with whatever engine type you'd like. Just make sure that the engines face in the proper direction for the rotor blades. *You will have to provide a spot for the VTOL Engines in your design if you wish to use the included nozzles.*
You may delete all but one of the detacher systems. I only included one for every side to make it easier to adjust for people new to this design.
**Warning!! In order to make This design I had to manually manipulate the rotor blades rotation in the plane design file. If you do not know how to do this then you will not be able to edit the rotor blades other than to assign what the flaps do. If they are accidentally edited and the undo button does not fix it you may have to re-download the original design, or hopefully just delete that part and re-add the sub system.**
Most importantly, Happy Building! I can't wait to see your designs.
