simple ilyushin IL-40P (funky edition)
IL-40 is the direct descendent of a long line of Sturmovik family, including the legendary IL-2. Designed by Sergei Ilyushin, the vast number of IL-2 played a pivotal role in the defense of fatherland during the great patriotic war, destroying German convoys and panzer forces. In the post-war period, several propeller-driven successors were created (IL-8/10/20), but their performance increase was deemed inadequate. The IL-40 was born when Ilyushin combined the cutting-edge jet technology of the 1950s and the tried-and-true layout of the IL-2. The resulting aircraft maintained the heavy armor of its predecessors, while drastically increased speed and maneuverability (comparable to contemporary Mig-15, from Wikipedia). Similar to late-war IL-2, the IL40 has a crew of 2: a pilot and a tail gunner - both are protected by an armored tub made from rolled homogenous steel armor used on tanks. The rest of the aircraft was of aluminum construction. The powerful Mikulin AM5 turbojet engines with afterburner allow the IL-40 to reach 1000km/h, a speed unimaginable with any propeller-driven systems. Unfortunately, the advent of tactical nuclear weapons made close-air-support an obsolete concept in the potential WW-III. This shift in doctrine resulted in the termination of the IL-40 project, with all prototypes and the few production aircraft scraped.

@jrodriguezwang well usually when someone says its a "simple" version that means its low part count lol
Ah yes the flying double barrel shotgun

It’s simple plane in the SimplePlanes ;)@Carbonfox1
@jrodriguezwang That's really funny
How is this the "simple" version? lol
Irony runs deep with Ilyushin planes, like how his son worked for Sukhoi for life@F104Deathtrap
:D@ACEPILOT109
The funny thing is you really did a beautiful job recreating this hideous jalopy. The from the commie-blue cockpit to the skin panels, this is a gorgeous tribute to a truly ugly machine.
10/10
I misspelled it @jrodriguezwang
Thank!@asteroidbook345
Glad u enjoy@metaphysicalgnome
Haha thanks XD, it’s so ugly I can’t stop looking at it@SimplyPlain
Is it some futurama reference I missed?@ACEPILOT109
Your build looks like absolute sh*e, a real disaster. It's by far the most hideous SP build I've ever seen.
In other words: you managed to build the best replica of the "Brawny" I've seen on this site so far. You're an artist -though the plane's original designer clearly wasn't ;)
this is very well done.
