Classic Autogyro

17.9k ForwardUntoDawn  3.1 years ago

I just had an urge to build an autogyro in SP, since I've never even messed around with the helicopter parts yet, and they're really fun to fly! This craft flies like a true autogyro, with an unpowered main rotor that spins due to forward speed. This one can takeoff in a relatively short distance, and can land vertically. I styled it based off of some real 1930s autogyros, and it has a fully VR compatible cockpit.

  • AG 1: Ignition
  • AG 3: Rotates the main rotor assembly for a higher angle during takeoff
  • VTOL: collective pitch
  • Trim: duh
  • for the shortest takeoff, activate 3 and set the collective to positive, rotation occurs around "2" on the RPM gauge
  • all instructions can be found on craft instructions, or labelled in the cockpit

    @jamesPLANESii aah yes, couldn't forget that!
    @Catttt thanks!
    @STENDEC solution is have the collective always set to at least a bit positive, that will prevent overspeeding. Use downward trim to keep the craft level if you need to

    @ForwardUntoDawn Still nice classic look, though.

    @ForwardUntoDawn The rotor blows up whenever it over-speeds, Is there a solution to this?

    This is really good, especially considering the part count!
    You should enter the VR challenge, just add the "civilian", "mobile friendly" and "VR" tags to enter

    It's a bit rough around the edges, but fun to fly. Very nice for the part count.
