Designed in East Germany in the 1980s with technology mostly from Russia. A simplified version of the HVSS suspension was used. 120mm smooth-bore does not have an auto loading system. extra armour was installed in front of the turret to help with its survivability.

@NicholasMaximum adding additional armor would not protect the tank from modern Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) shots and the additional armor can only protect the tank from HEAT, ATGM, HE, and World War II tank shells. Also additional armor translates to more weight and impact in mobility of the tank
