USER MANUAL

DEV NOTES

An evolution of the previous sword design that my character, Naozumi, uses. The weapon is heavy and large, but not excessively so. Its length is about 2/3 of her height, and it looks normal when worn on the side.

There are elements from traditional swords mixed with futuristic designs. It's nice that Wikipe-tan has a lot of info regarding swords. The blade, hilt, and sheath are built separately to show the sword's construction, and allow each part to be displayed by itself.

It is built at 5x scale to make things easier. This is the same scale I made previous humanoids in. I decided not to scaled this down after completion as it will make it harder to look around. Some blocks are scaled even smaller, and then made bigger with part settings to avoid issues with reflections.

Patterns are made with fuselage blocks as labels have poor reflective properties.

I've excluded some details that I would probably have added to a drawing, as those are unfeasible to build.

The project was open for a month. As it happens, the original sketch dates back to a certain day that's of importance to quirky music enthusiasts. (I'm allowed to say this as I'm one of them)

A SolidWorks model of this exists, but it has many problems. I may or may not make another one. I have also drawn the sheath with an alternate wavy pattern, which is quite difficult to make in game.

The Blade of the Waterfall is a longsword built by the Ukimiya sisters. The blade was machined from the armor of a flying warship, making it stronger, but lighter, than an equivalent blade forged from steel. The recommended fighting style for the weapon centers around long, sweeping attacks. It might be assumed that thrusts are effective due to the straight blade, but the broad design and mass of the blade works against such tactics.

The weapon has an imposing appearance, but cannot be used very effectively in normal situations due to its weight. While this would be undesirable, it plays into a special feature of the Ukimiyas' military-derived architecture, where a large amount of additional strength is available in a fight-or-flight situation. This turns the weight from a hindrance to better cutting power.

However, as civilian units in a relatively safe location, the Ukimiyas never find themselves in combat that might need such a device. The true purpose of the weapon is unknown. It could be for sports, a research project, or just a prop for decoration. Either way, it seems to reflect the weapons of their makers, the society, and those who have come before.
