@Diloph after the 1954 NATO market for a light fighter, the French presented 2 prototypes : the Taon and the Étendard VI. The Étendard was the favorite of the competition but the Italians cheated by blackmailing the US (they said they could become communist if their plane didn't win the market) and that's how the G.91 was chosen. Note that it's why France never bought a single one.
