The MiG-17 was a sub-sonic jet fighter made in Soviet Russia by Mikoyan-Gurevich for the Soviet Air Force, People’s Liberation Army Air Force, Polish Air Force, and Vietnam People’s Air Force with different varients of the MiG-17 such as the PZL-Mielec Lim-6 and the Shenyang J-5. Its first flight took place on the 14th of January in 1950 and made its debut in the Soviet Air force on October 1952, but wouldn’t see major combat until 1958 during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. The MiG-17 would serve in many air forces until 1980 when it was replaced by other Mikoyan-Gurevich models like the MiG-19 and MiG-21.
