Levasseur PL.200 (Seaplane Challenge)
The Plane
An unusually configured French seaplane, the PL.200 was designed and built by Levasseur as an observation aircraft for the French Military. It was a high-wing monoplane with a short, all-metal fuselage nacelle at mid-span, and a wing made of metal. The fuselage and wings were supported on struts above the two floats which extended rear-wards to form the tail unit with twinfins and rudders and single tailplane with elevator. The 720 hp (540 kW) Hispano-Suiza 9Vbrs engine was mounted as a tractor in the nose of the fuselage nacelle.
From my knowledge, the aircraft was either reengined or another airframe was built. With the limited information and pictures of the aircraft, my version is a very very imperfect replica of the earlier model.
Controls
Standard aircraft controls apply, yaw for yaw, pitch for pitch, etc.
Ag1 - engine activation
Ag7 - yaw assist for on-the-water movement
To take off set flaps all the way down and trim to the half down setting. Activate Ag1 and set throttle to full. The plane will lift off on its own and once it does retract flaps and trim how you like.
Landing is easier but the stall speed is around 65 mph. Set flaps to full and bring the plane down slowly.
Personal Notes
There’s about five different images of the aircraft on the internet, and that’s about it. Plus, not too much else on forums or wikis about the plane. Despite the challenges of finding information, the plane looks really interesting to me with the pontoons that morph into vertical stabilizers.
With its less than aerodynamic shape, it flies how you could expect, a bit rotund on the rolls and not very speedy. But it’s easy to control nonetheless.
Anyways, it’s been a long while since I published something on here. Over a year ago I teased an airship carrier project, but I lost that when the game got deleted from my phone. Then summer rolled around and I spent it earning my pilots license. School hit then I got engulfed by that. It was nice returning and building something again though. I don’t know how often I’ll post but I might stick around for a bit.
Anyways my blogs over.
I’ll see ya later, have a great flight!
