Mehve - Nausicaa Glider
Thought I'd take a run at the glider from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It ended up being my first foray into using FT, and I'm proud of what came from it. Simple stuff, but with some pretty cool results that helped keep the part count low.
Controls in flight are all normal.
To launch, either pitch up and open the throttle (boring, ungraceful) or tap the brake for a powered leap a few meters into the air, then gracefully throttle up and let the ever so gentle "ground effect" guide you up and away from the runway (screen-accurate, awesome).
The launch system only engages when you're extremely close to the ground and moving very slowly, otherwise the brake is a regular airbrake. To disable the launcher entirely, simply raise the gear. There is a VTOL thruster system in place to simulate body weight adjustment, so the Mehve will pitch and roll even at extremely low speeds. There is also a gyro assist that will activate for landing if you make a slow and careful approach. To deactivate the gyro, thrusters, and ground effect simulation, turn off AG8.
TL;DR controls:
Brake+ Gear down (stationary): VTOL launch
AG8 off: deactivate thrusters and gyro landing assist
AG1 + VTOL up: fold wings for storage
AG2 + VTOL up: open belly hatch for engine maintenance
VR note: I tried to put cameras and hand grips in the canonically correct places, but anyone who's seen the film knows that the two flight positions are kind of weird, so I have no idea if or how this will work in VR. If someone with access to a headset wants to give it a try, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

@WinsWings Yes! So many good possibilities from that world...
I was building a fictional plane, inspired by the large transport planes from Naussicca
Lol, you did it, I was thinking of building this one with Princess Naussicca riding on it
