IJ-1 "Kaze" (Wind)
The IJ-1 Kaze (Japanese for "Wind") is the first domestically produced modern fighter of the island nation Ishikawa, symbolizing speed, agility, and the nation's commitment to defending its skies. Designed as a defensive interceptor, the Kaze excels at rapid response, scrambling within minutes to intercept and neutralize enemy bombers.
Entering service on January 23, 1981, the Kaze is powered by two MI-57 afterburning engines, each producing 17,200 lbs of thrust, allowing it to reach speeds exceeding Mach 1.15. Its compact design (9.5 meters in wingspan and length, 3 meters in height) and lightweight frame (10 tons) make it a highly maneuverable and efficient fighter.
Armed with an internal weapons bay housing two AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles, wingtip-mounted AIM-9 Sidewinders, and a 20mm autocannon, the Kaze is equipped for both medium and close-range engagements. Its aerodynamic design ensures reduced drag and optimized performance, critical for interception missions.
The Kaze embodies Ishikawa's engineering excellence and dedication to airspace defense, standing as a testament to speed, precision, and national resilience.
