Railgun Prototype
Edit - I now realize that this unfortunately doesn't work as intended, I used a very powerful detacher to accelerate the round so that the magnets could then propel it themselves. However, I have been informed that the magnets don't actually do anything, and the detacher is the only thing propelling the round. But hey, atleast it's still a pretty powerful detacher cannon!
This may be the only truly functional Railgun on SimplePlanes, although it is only a prototype, so I may be wrong. If anyone could possibly troubleshoot for me that would be great! I'm kinda limited by my "half empty bag of chips on the side of the road" IPad, so I can't really do too much.
ANYWAY, enough jibber-jabber about whatever that was, let's get to the Railgun!
I used the magnets to the best of my ability to create a sort of magnetic propulsion system, which is probably the closest we can get to a Railgun in SP, if you're comparing it to an actual Railgun. Since you can't actually make magnets repel instead of attract, I faced the magnets in the opposite direction to pull the projectile instead of pushing it. It uses a detacher to accelerate the shot, but I believe the magnets do the rest.
Controls: VTOL and TRIM to control the turret it's attached to, also I'd like to mention that for some reason, this thing has an absolutely immense amount of recoil, so if you plan on attaching this to anything, make sure that it's heavy enough to withstand the recoil. To fire it, activate AG-1. You can follow the round using camera one, but for some reason, (lets just blame SimplePlanes physics for now.) when you fire it while you're on the camera view that follows the round, the camera view goes haywire and glitches into the ground. Idk why, but it only works on slow-motion if you want to follow the round. It's probably better that you watch the round in slow motion anyway, considering how fast it moves. Weirdly enough though, if you fire it in slow motion, and then switch it back to normal speed, the camera works fine, very weird indeed.
Just like an actual Railgun, the projectile does not explode, it only uses the immense amount of kinetic force that it wields to destroy targets. But don't worry, it actually works. I've fired this at the USS Tiny, and it immediately started to sink. So judging by those results, I think it's safe to say that it could easily completely obliterate a convoy vehicle, the WWII Destroyers and even the Modern Destroyers, the missile launchers and the Anti-Missile lazer emitters at the Ice-Base, but I don't think it can take out the USS Beast in one shot, maybe two or three would tame the Beast.
It has a very long range, although the projectile seems to lose quite a lot of energy after flying for atleast 15+ miles. This shouldn't really have a negative affect though, since you can really only see things for about 10 miles, if that makes sense.
Cool Features:
- Has a cool futuristic look
- Actually sounds somewhat like a Railgun
- Projectile looks like an actual Railgun projectile, and it even spins too.
- Smells good after you fire it

Yeah, don't really know whatelse to say here, so here's a video.

@CausticCaust I used magnets that were linked to the same activation group that fires the Railgun Spike. But unfortunately, this prototype doesn’t work as intended, so it’s not worth the trouble. If you want a Railgun that works just fine and looks even cooler, try this.
How the hell did you get that awesome sound?
@ProjectVideoGame yes, I’ve established this already.
Uhmm, the normal speed camera works when you slow down time when launching then changing it back to normal
You can launch yourself into mountains with this thing, I like it!
Holy Donut...

That last one
I actually own a hand held railgun (only 100 fps) and I know that smell:)
@Kitten777 yeah, I realized that a bit too late, sorry.
I’m just sad at that fact that the magnets do absolutely nothing and it’s just a modded detacher ÓwÒ,
@Armyguy1534 yeah, but it's still a problem if it isn't up. check the successors, Someone made a version where it doesn't glitch when you fire.
The camera doesn't go haywire of you aim the gun up
@Zoomzoom999 setting their power to a negative number just removes their ability to magnetize at all, I'm afraid. Maybe they'll be updated in the future so that they can repel things too, instead of just attracting things.
Could the magnets also work if you turned them the other way and set their power to a negative number?
Cool!
@ThomasRoderick in this case I does neither the only thing accelerating it is the detacher in the back of the gun
c;
@Ariathe ugh. Now I want chips.
Okay, I get that it shoots railgun projectiles at mach speeds...
But what about an actual bag of chips?
Really nice railgun!
@Minecraftpoweer lol, thanks!
@AWESOMENESS360 Np, I really like how insanely fast the projectile goes.
@Minecraftpoweer ok, thanks for the advice!
I really like it except that you should Always have the rotator on the bottom and hinge ontop, that way it doesn't tilt when you rotate and elevate.
This is technically a gauss rifle aka a coil gun minus the coil part awesome creation tho
