1949 Ford Shoebox
well its been nearly 30 days since i started work on this car (November 30th 2016) and i think its safe to say its a bit of a labour of love. I started the whole thing from scratch after getting the idea from a model car of mine so big thanks to Maisto models for their 1:18 scale 1949 Ford convertible. ive been a bit meticulous with the whole thing its about as accurate as i could get it so i hope you enjoy it.
also thank you to @ElGatoVolador for the modded steering wheel that was re-shaped to create most of the chrome trim and door fixtures.
heres a spiel of info on the real car if you wanted to know more
The 1949 Ford also know as the shoebox for its body incorperated slab sided fenders was the first all new car design from Ford since the outbreak of WW2 where all cars sold from 1941-1948 were simply reproductions of the 1941 Ford. The new 1949 design was very radical inside and out in comparison to previous models bringing a whole new chassis with ladder framing and X-frame chassis on the convertible supported by new modern coil spring suspension and driven by a new drive shaft. Interior changes included the lowering of roofline, wider and more forward seat placement & lower steering wheel for ergonomics. The cars striking exterior style has been the source of debate where atleast 4 employees from the Ford design department of the day have claimed to be behind the design or atleast part of it namely the iconic bullet grille & rear windsplitter with connected horizontal taillight. designers even experimented with a windsheild projecting heads up display for the speedometer. In all the design became a huge comercial success receiving over 100000 orders on its first day of sale and seeing 1,118,308 units produced from 1949-1951.
