The Boeing 787-9 is a state-of-the-art, long-haul, wide-body aircraft developed by Boeing. As part of the Dreamliner family, it stands out for its fuel efficiency, advanced aerodynamics, and significant use of composite materials, which reduce its weight and increase efficiency. The 787-9 can accommodate between 290 and 296 passengers in a typical two-class configuration and has a range of approximately 7,530 nautical miles, making it well-suited for long international routes. The aircraft typically costs around $292 million, though this can vary depending on the specific configuration.

Qantas, Australia's national airline, operates a fleet of Boeing 787-9 aircraft, including one with the eye-catching "Yam Dreaming" livery. This special livery, created by Indigenous artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Australia’s Aboriginal peoples. The design is inspired by the yam plant, a vital food source with deep cultural significance. The aircraft, registered as VH-ZND, was delivered to Qantas in February 2018 and unveiled with the "Yam Dreaming" livery in March of the same year.

The Qantas 787-9 with the "Yam Dreaming" livery is configured to seat 236 passengers, with 42 seats in Business, 28 in Premium Economy, and 166 in Economy class. It serves on a variety of international routes, including some of the airline’s longest flights, such as those to Los Angeles and London. The "Yam Dreaming" livery not only enhances the aircraft's visual appeal but also underscores Qantas’ commitment to celebrating and sharing Indigenous Australian culture on the global stage.
