McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II [V1]

20.2k CheeseTruffles  4.9 years ago

>>>VERSION TWO<<<

A replica of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II.

Aircraft includes all custom control surfaces, a detailed fully functioning cockpit + augmented camera and working afterburner with realistic VFX.

The Augmented Cockpit-Camera will Pitch, Roll and Yaw with accordance to the aircraft, to simulate pilot inertia. The gun-sight will adjust accordingly to stay straight, though will only go as far as the gun-sight allows, and will not fully track the camera.

To activate afterburners, set throttle to 100% and AG1. Afterburners will only engage in this state.

Nose wheel steering is only available when gear is in the down position and travelling less than 40mph

Aircraft is somewhat sluggish to manoeuvre, especially at low speeds. I recommend using afterburners constantly if you want to fly around for fun. Be careful when using flaps, it may cause the roll to be unstable. For maximum flap effectiveness at high speed, do not extend more than 30% out. Only use 100% for landing.

In addition, if you set VTOL up, the flaps will push the plane downward, though the visual flaps and flap indicators in the cockpit will not show this.

Controls:
[AG-1: Afterburner]
[AG-2: Lights]
[AG-3: Release Bombs]
[AG-7: Chute]
[AG-8: Cockpit lights]
[VTOL (Down): Flaps]
[Trim: Trim]
[Camera-1: Augmented Cockpit]
[Camera-2: Navigator Cockpit]

P.S Aircraft stalls quickly, be careful when landing.

P.P.S Don't fire your cannons while landing gear is down (duh).

The problem was I really wanted guns on mine, but ‘marines’ and ‘airforce’ were too long to put as decals so I had to go with ‘navy’ lol @WolfSpark

@CheeseTruffles I can’t really say without seeing the new version. Make an unlisted post and tag me in it if you feel like and I will take a look :)

I’m almost done with the second version, do you have any more little improvements I could do? I want to make this one as good as possible :D @Mustang51

Wow, this is really really good! I haven't tried it yet but don't worry too much about maneuverability, the F-4 was after all made with two key principles in mind:
    1. Since it's an interceptor meant to launch missiles from far away, it doesn't need to be very maneuverable.
    2. Given enough thrust, even a brick could fly.
The cockpit looks amazing and it externally looks to be very true to the real thing.
Apparently you have a newer version coming so keep it up!

I'm impressed with the cockpit! I would recommend going for the mechanical instrumentation mod which helps reduce the part count significantly!

I’m sorry to be a bit picky here but The US Navy didn’t carry Gunpods on any of their F-4B’s or F-4J’s (which is all they used). But the Marines did, plus you’re missing certain lights in certain areas. (You got half of the Nav lights, Anti-collision missing, Formation, And strobes.) so Just for future references to other ppl

@CheeseTruffles but how did you get those lights so accurate? That's just amazing man. Great job on this.

I somehow managed to fly this on my iPad. It flies surprisingly well and I really like it! Nice job!

@metallicplanes You can find a full list of possible inputs here. To create the gauges, I attached 4 beacon lights to a fuselage piece, duplicated it multiple times, rotated each one by a certain degree and compiled them all into one gauge. This ensures the lights are in a perfect circle. After than it's just a case of putting in the rotator, needle, and calibrating the math for the rotators. Try reverse-engineering my gauges if you need help :).

The functional cockpit is a REALLY nice touch. This is the first plane I have seen like this. Can you tell me all the inputs and how you made the accurate markings on the gauges?

@CheeseTruffles hahaha yeah I understand. I’m both a bit swamped at work and have college stuff to do so I can’t build the planes I really want to just yet

@Mustang51 I've already fixed up the compass issue. Next on the list is manoeuvrability. Might take a while though kinda busy with real life stuff.
